India Kitchen, Manchester, CT - Really????

I went there today hoping to have some nice lunch with a friend. This place is very near to the highway exit in a residential area with ample parking space and pleasant staff. The place is clean and neat with narrow beautiful chairs, well my friend was wondering how will a fat American fit in one of those (8\). This restaurant was opened recently so I was waiting to taste something new. We ordered tea, samosa and some idlis and waited for almost 30 mins in a near empty restaurant to find out we have to pick vada as samosa was not available.

Finally, (after what felt like light years) we got our orders. I digged right away into my idlis only to find they were dry. My friend reported masala dosa was oily and Veg Briyani looked good but had no spiciness and had strange vegetables (I found Cucumber??) in it. Hunger striking us we were happy to find Raita and Tea appeasing. We found the Sambar Vada tasty too (forgetting the fact it looked like bonda!!). One more caveat to Andhra guys!! Do not Expect the food to be Spicy or Salty.

My Sunday would have been better even with an hour long waiting and noisiness of something like I-Hop I guess. May be Time will heal it. The lunch buffet starts from next week... Lets see how that tastes.

Update:
01/25/10 - The management has changed in this restaurant and they have some help from Priya Restaurant too now. The food is much better. In the weekend buffet Pongal/Vadai/Sambar are the highlights. Need to improve on the north Indian dishes though! Idlis are also very good with those chutneys. Tastes like the ones you get in Chennai hotels.

Update:
04/21/2010 - Again a disaster, this weekend buffet was horrible, either the dishes had too much salt or no salt at all masking all other flavours. The pongal was watery and the sweet did not taste anything close to a Mayisurpak.

  1. its a new restaurant and let we give some time for them to settle.
I saw some originality in the food there.
Sambar is ultimate here (I say this is the good Sambar vada, sambar idli in hartford). Other than that Hyd dum briyani is good, but as u said its not that much spicy. Hope they maintain the originality and improve the ambience too.
